Écart

L'Écart is an artist-run center that promotes all disciplines in the broader field of visual arts. Situated in Rouyn-Noranda (Quebec, Canada), it supports professional artists whose approach is based on a sustained practice in contemporary art. L'Écart is a place of artists' residency, research and creation. It produces national and international events and publishes publications. It promotes the professionalization of emerging artists and facilitates exchanges between artists in its region (Abitibi-Témiscamingue) and the national arts community. L’Écart manages and owns a 20,000 square foot building. It is a social economy entreprise by offering artists services such as production spaces,specialized equipment, housing and a documentation centre. It pays exhibition fees (CARFAC), professional fees, living expenses, transportation for artists and works and offers a wide range of material and human resources. L’Écart produces the Biennale d'art performatif de Rouyn-Noranda, an international event in performance art and interdisciplinarity.
